Every so often I hear a comment floating around spiritual circles . . . “The idea that anyone needs a spiritual coach, mentor, guide, especially for money, is questionable at best.”
It stirs something in me, not because I disagree that discernment is essential in this space I absolutely do, but because that statement oversimplifies the human experience to the point of distortion.
Here’s the truth: we are not designed to ‘do life’ alone.
We are wired for connection.
We co-regulate through other nervous systems.
We grow by seeing ourselves reflected in others.
We learn new perspectives through external frameworks long before we embody them as internal truths.
To suggest that personal growth should happen in isolation misses a fundamental piece of how evolution, both spiritual and human, works.
Let’s get real about this:
Your soul’s wisdom? It’s already within you.
But your nervous system? Your subconscious patterns? Your blind spots? Those often need the mirror of another, a mentor, a space holder, a guide, to shift.
It’s not about handing your power away. It’s about remembering that we are relational beings. Growth is relational. Healing is relational. Even the most ancient spiritual traditions understood this , initiations, apprenticeships, temples, elders, all frameworks where guidance and learning were exchanged.
The modern world packages that differently, often with money and yes, that brings up valid questions about integrity, accessibility, and ego-driven marketing. But the existence of questionable practices doesn’t negate the value of genuine, skilled, heart-led mentors.
If anything, it calls for deeper discernment, not dismissal.
For me, the work I do as a spiritual mentor isn’t about creating dependence, it’s about walking alongside someone as they remember who they are, as they steady their energy, as they integrate wisdom not just from me, but from life itself.
Because here’s the real myth: The idea that we should be able to figure it all out alone. That if we were truly ‘spiritually evolved,’ we wouldn’t need help.
I’ve never seen that work. We need people. Safe, honest, clear-hearted people.
The framework often starts outside-in and then becomes inside-out. That’s not weakness, that’s biology, spirituality, and real-world wisdom entwined.
So if you’ve ever been made to feel like investing in your growth, your clarity, your nervous system regulation is somehow ‘less than’ I invite you to question that narrative.
Because evolving with support?
That’s not weakness.
That’s how we’re built.
You don’t have to do it alone and you’re not meant to. If you’re wondering what it’s like to be supported on your journey, you can read real reflections from others here.
